The Beginning
Monumental Minds began as a small virtual group, created in response to parents who voiced concerns about the lack of spaces for their children to connect, express themselves, and release stress. James Broadnax, a Black clinician who grew up in Chicago, recognized the critical need for representation in mental health services—a space where young Black boys could see themselves reflected in someone who shares their experiences and understands their unique challenges. With this vision, Monumental Minds has grown into a transformative program that empowers young men to embrace their authentic selves, build resilience, and thrive with the support of a community that truly sees them.
Our Mission
Monumental Minds is dedicated to empowering Black youth to thrive by fostering emotional well-being, personal growth, and a strong sense of community. Through mentorship, skill-building, and meaningful connections, the program provides a foundation for young men to embrace their emotions, discover their potential, and navigate life with confidence and purpose.
Why It Matters
Black youth often face unique challenges, including societal pressures, limited emotional support, and the impact of adverse experiences. These obstacles can lead to stress, suppressed emotions, and lost opportunities for growth. Monumental Minds addresses these challenges by offering a safe space where young men can develop resilience, find their voices, and build the skills they need to break cycles of adversity and create a brighter future.
Our Vision
The vision of Monumental Minds is to build a future where every young man has the tools, confidence, and support to live a monumental life. By nurturing emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and resilience, the program aims to shape a generation of leaders who thrive not only in their personal lives but also in their communities and beyond.
Looking Ahead
As Monumental Minds continues to grow, the focus remains on expanding its reach and impact. Future plans include broadening access to underserved communities, enhancing program offerings, and building partnerships to support more young men on their journey. The goal is to create lasting change and inspire a new wave of leaders who will transform their own lives and the world around them.
