Hi, I’m James Broadnax, a therapist, mentor, and someone who deeply cares about helping young Black men find their strength and purpose. Growing up, I saw firsthand how much it matters to have someone believe in you, and that’s what drives me today. Through Monumental Minds, I’m here to create a space where young men feel seen, supported, and inspired to become their best selves. This isn’t just a program—it’s a community, built on connection, understanding, and the belief that every young man deserves the chance to thrive.

I am also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Illinois and a PhD student researching how trauma impacts the life outcomes of youth, as well as how buffers and community support can combat those outcomes. My research focuses on understanding the ways in which protective factors—such as strong relationships, emotional support, and community resources—can help youth overcome the challenges posed by trauma and adversity, leading to healthier, more successful life outcomes.

With a strong foundation in working with children in various carceral settings, my experience has driven me to be proactive in addressing the effects of trauma on young people. Through my clinical practice and research, I am committed to fostering healing and growth in youth, particularly those who have experienced significant adversity. My work integrates trauma-informed approaches aimed at empowering individuals and improving their overall well-being.

"Every young man carries greatness within him—it just takes the right support, love, and belief to bring it to life." - James Broadnax
